About Smith Outfitters

Smith Outfitters was established in the Fall of 2010 in Steubenville, Ohio, with the primary goal of addressing the needs of the law enforcement market. In 2012, an acquisition of a Federal Firearms License (FFL) took place, followed by the addition of a Class 3 dealer license in 2013, which includes holding a Special Occupational Tax (SOT). This additional license expanded our ability to provide suppressors, short barrel firearms, and fully automatic weapons to qualified customers.

In 2015, a rebranding to Smith Outfitters, LLC was implemented to better reflect our growing range of products and services, which now include fishing, hunting, and camping gear. Smith Outfitters aims to serve as a comprehensive local destination for all outdoor gear needs.

By 2016, Smith Outfitters welcomed Shawn Smith, a certified gunsmith and my brother, to the team. With his expertise, we proudly operate as a family-owned business. Shawn oversees operations at our Weirton, West Virginia location, where we not only offer firearm services but also facilitate sales and transfers across state lines. The approval of our West Virginia Federal Firearms License at the Weirton location has streamlined purchases for customers residing nearby who previously faced transfer restrictions.

The following year, in 2018, an additional SOT license was secured for the West Virginia site, enabling us to deal in all NFA items within the state and facilitate transfers between the Ohio and West Virginia locations.

In a significant development in 2020, Smith Outfitters obtained a Type 07 Manufacturing License and unveiled a new storefront at 236 Avery Avenue, Steubenville, OH 43952. This license now empowers us to produce our line of firearms and NFA items, with plans to introduce an exclusive line of AR15s by 2021.
